A delegation of the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) met with the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) on 1st March 2016 to discuss the cooperation between SIDA and ACBF in general and especially to receive an update on the work ACBF is conducting in support of the implementation of the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

The SIDA delegation was informed that ACBF has conducted the following work in this regard:

  • Study of the Capacity Imperatives for the Implementation of Agenda 2063
  • Development of a Capacity Development Plan
  • Study of the Risks associated with the Implementation of Agenda 2063
  • Review of the Critical Technical Skills required for the implementation of Agenda 2063.

The ACBF Executive Secretary, Prof. Emmanuel Nnadozie, also informed ACBF’s distinguished visitors of the Program that ACBF is developing in support of the implementation of Agenda 2063 and expressed his hope that ACBF will be able to partner with SIDA on this new program. The SIDA delegation was also informed that ACBF is developing its 5-year Strategic Plan for the period 2017-2021.

It is worth noting that the Kingdom of Sweden, through SIDA, has been continuously supporting capacity development in Africa and ACBF since the Foundation’s inception in 1991. As such, SIDA is among the critical partners that have allowed ACBF to achieve widely acknowledged success in supporting policy formulation and implementation in Africa over the past 25 years.

The SIDA delegation to ACBF was led by Mr. Pierre Fruhling, Counsellor and Program Manager Regional Co-operation, Governance and Anti-Corruption and comprised Ms. Fantu Farris, Program Officer, Economic Integration and Trade, Regional Cooperation. The ACBF Executive Secretary  led the ACBF delegation. He was accompanied by Mr. Bakary Kone, Manager of the Office of the Executive Secretary, Partnerships and Resource Mobilization, Dr. Roger Atindehou, Manager of the ACBF Operations for Eastern and Southern Africa, and Dr. Robert Nantchouang, Officer-in-Charge of the Knowledge, Monitoring and Evaluation Department.

ACBF has been granted the status of a specialized agency because of the potential to transform Africa through capacity development.

Erastus Mwencha

The recognition of ACBF as the African Union’s Specialized Agency for Capacity Development launches the beginning of a new era for capacity building by ACBF, which will require an appropriate level of political commitment and financial support from all stakeholders.

H.E. Erastus Mwencha, Chair, ACBF Executive Board
Lamin Momodou

The remarkable achievements ACBF has registered over the past 26 years is not by accident in our opinion. They have come through hard work, dedication, commitment, purposeful leadership, support from the member countries as well as productive partnership building.

Mr. Lamin Momodou MANNEH, Director, UNDP Regional Service Centre for Africa
Goodall Gondwe

Africa needs ACBF as much, probably more now, than at the time it was created in 1991.

Hon. Goodall Gondwe, former Chair of the ACBF Board of Governors and Minister of Finance – Malawi
Ken Ofori Atta

Ghana’s partnership with ACBF is a tremendous blessing for us and therefore the opportunity for Ghana to host the 26th ACBF Board of Governors Meeting is something that we treasure.
