ACBF SUPPORTS FEMALE MASTERS EDUCATION IN STEM

Nigeria
15 Mar, 2017

For the third successive year running, the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) has supported female Master’s students at the African University of Science and Technology (AUST) to pursue various masters in science programs. The scholarship awards form part of ACBF’s commitment to develop the next generation of African leaders through science and technology education, as espoused in the Foundation’s strategic plan 2017-21.

As noted by some of the awardees, the ACBF funding has enabled them to pursue their dreams of attaining higher education in science and technology. Ten 10 of the girls who are pursuing courses in Computer Science, Pure and Applied Math, Theoretical Physics and Material Science  were awarded full scholarships averaging $23,000 per student, in addition to a monthly stipend. An additional group of ten (10) girls from the Petroleum Engineering stream were also given stipends. Below are comments from some of the excited beneficiaries of the scholarship program:

Words can't express my joy right now.. i am sincerely honoured by African capacity building foundation (ACBF) and my school (AUST) for giving me this great opportunity. may the Almighty God reward you and may He bless you. - Muleekat Ibrahim Yaqub

It’s not easy to find assistance, especially with monetary concerns. I will never forget the goodness ACBF has done for me. ACBF is doing a great job more especially to us (ladies) in which there is no cultural or religious difference in it, to me it is very important seeing how equally we were treated. I feel loved and cared for by the ACBF.
May ACBF be blessed with all the graces it so deserved.
- Rukayya Umar

I do wish to pass on heartfelt thanks both from myself, and also the female students, for the successful award of the Scholarships and offer of stipends by African Capacity Building Foundation ACBF.
We would like to give you a huge thank  you

The recognition of ACBF as the African Union’s Specialized Agency for Capacity Development launches the beginning of a new era for capacity building by ACBF, which will require an appropriate level of political commitment and financial support from all stakeholders.

The remarkable achievements ACBF has registered over the past 26 years is not by accident in our opinion. They have come through hard work, dedication, commitment, purposeful leadership, support from the member countries as well as productive partnership building.

Mr. Lamin Momodou MANNEH, Director, UNDP Regional Service Centre for Africa

Africa needs ACBF as much, probably more now, than at the time it was created in 1991.

Ghana’s partnership with ACBF is a tremendous blessing for us and therefore the opportunity for Ghana to host the 26th ACBF Board of Governors Meeting is something that we treasure.
